Aloha! I am Jill Mitchell and I’m thrilled to be practicing with At Home Animal Hospital. I pursued a career in veterinary medicine because of my love and passion for animals. My love of animals began early in life and my childhood consisted of caring for a variety of animals. So naturally, I’m proud to be affiliated with a clinic whose goal is to provide clients with the best comprehensive veterinary care. Ten years ago, I never could have imagined the circumstances that would have led me to this state of the art facility. Originally from Michigan, I completed my undergraduate education in 2002, graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky with a 4.0 G.P.A. as an Otis A. Singletary Scholar. I then went on to attend Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.8 G.P.A. in 2006. While pursuing my degree I obtained several awards and recognitions such as receiving notable recognition for academic achievement by the American Society of Animal Science and being named Golden Key International Society’s outstanding senior in 2002. While attending school I was also awarded several scholarships. In 2003-2004, I received Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine’s Simms Academic Scholarship, and the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association awarded me with the Academic Scholarship in 2004-2005. In 2005-2006 I received Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine’s Menzies Academic Scholarship, as well as the Eastman Kodak Radiology Award for outstanding achievement in radiology during my senior clinical rotations in 2005-2006.

After graduation, I practiced for ten years in Kentucky focusing on preventative and internal medicine, as well as surgery. For the past 8 years I have been affiliated with the Frankfort Animal Clinic who has been voted “Best in Frankfort” by the People’s Choice Award the past seven years in a row. In October 2011 I was the DVM KVMA sponsor for Domino Barker, owner Cindy Barker, an inductee into the KVMA Animal Hall of Fame.

While in Kentucky, I’ve donated my time providing medical care and funding to homeless, unwanted animals. I organized and was the representing veterinarian for the Animal Care Center of Somerset, Kentucky at the annual “Bow Wow Holiday”, a local pet expo. I also organized fundraising for the Kentucky Dachshund Rescue to help animals in need of treatment, and went on to provide care for L.I.F.E. House for Animals, a no kill shelter in Frankfort, Kentucky, as well as helping to sponsor their yearly fundraising event for their foundation, “Bow Wow Meow” dinner and auction.

I am happily married to Eric Mitchell and have 6 “hairy” children: a French Bulldog named Buddy, a Chihuahua named Mama Jama, a harlequin Great Dane named Epona, a Chihuahua mix named Kailani, a calico cat named Chloe, and a grey tabby cat named Troy-Bilt. I look forward to treating your furry children on this beautiful island!
